19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just one match at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents his first championship following the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from March of the previous year.

Success also indicates he has won twenty-one victories at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

The player's defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to question if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

The champion recovered from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game chances in a tight deciding set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he secured the win with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
